Modules stored in an EAR file can include a web module ( WAR file) containing web applications, plain old Java objects (classes) deployed as JAR files, enterprise JAR modules containing their own metadata, and resource adapter modules stored in RAR files. The EAR file is essentially a ZIP archive with a different filename extension, containing all the modules, artifacts, and metadata of a Java application. An EAR file is an enterprise application archive used to package and distribute enterprise applications developed using Java EE software development kit.
